On Roman Time

-jmj

I spent the majority of today in the center of Rome. It is such an interesting city. Everyone is moving so fast, cars are bustling by, hardly stopping for pedestrians. People are walking fast, talking fast, etc... but then everyone is functioning on their own time. The clerk at the Gelato store will check you out when he wants to, and the lady at the supermarket sits while she rings you up.

I also was surprised today when I learned that for a city that is constantly crowded with tourists they take their pausa pranzo (lunch break) very seriously. From about 12:00pm to 2:30pm every church is closed. From 2:30pm to 5:00pm every restaurant is closed. It's crazy! For a girl coming from the 24- hour city of Las Vegas its hard to imagine being closed in the middle of the day!

Here are some of the sites we saw today...

The Trevi Fountain and the 100s of tourists
making a wish!

The cutest old couple trying to stay dry in the middle of a rain storm.

The first church we visited.

Don't know what this is called, but it was massive!

The inside of the Basilica d'Maria in Araceoli

/
I offered up a prayer for all of you today! May our Blessed Mother watch over and protect you.

First Gelato in Roma!

/
Tiramisu Gelato. Delicious! And is that the papal seal on the cone?
That's all for now... Till we meet again, Ciao!

Michela
